An important tourist attraction of the city is the Sinaia Gondola.
The installation is one of the newest and most efficient cable installations in Europe and in the world.
The cable car was put into operation in December 2007 and is equipped with a number of 34 gondolas, each of which can carry a maximum of 8 people. Produced by the Austrian company Doppelmayr, a world leader in the field, the installation incorporates cutting-edge technology for maximum safety. The Sinaia cable car starts from the Furnica neighborhood (a little above the "Taverna Sârbului" restaurant) and reaches Cota 1400, a few meters from the old cable car and the chairlift that goes up to Cota 2000. Since they haven't appeared on the maps yet, here are the GPS coordinates of the two stations:
– elevation 1000: north latitude 45°20′57.1″, east longitude 25°32′01.2″;
– elevation 1400: north latitude 45°21′17.2″, east longitude 25°31′05.3″.
The maximum transport capacity is 1700 passengers per hour, and the gondolas are equipped with external pockets for placing skis. Starting with the last season, a new ski slope - Părtia Noua - was put into use, which is served by the Sinaia Gondola. The slope is completely covered with artificial snow through a system of lances.
The advantages of the Sinaia Gondola compared to other cable transport facilities are:
– first of all, a high level of safety due to additional security systems. The Sinaia Gondola is the only one in the country that benefits from such systems;
– high transport capacity – maximum 1700 people/hour – compared to other cable transport installations;
– transport speed that can reach up to 6 m/s when there are a lot of tourists;
– the superb landscape that can be admired from the Gondola – the entire city of Sinaia;
- the increased comfort offered by the seats inside the 34 gondolas and the external pockets for storing skis or snowboards.
The Sinaia Gondola is the property of the Sinaia City Hall and is managed by SC Transport Urban Sinaia SRL, whose sole and majority shareholder is the Sinaia Local Council.
